Kurudumale Sri Mahaganapathi Temple, Mulbagal

kurudumale mahaganpathi
Kurudumale Sri Mahaganapathi Temple is built by the Vijayanagar rulers. As per the legends, the idol of Lord Ganesha was installed by trimurthis Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara and they offered puja to lord Ganapathi together. Hence the place was named after this as Kudumale (place where all 3 of them united together). However over the period of time and by word of mouth, it has been pronounced as Kurudumale. The idol of Sri Mahaganapathi is 13.5 feet tall and is among the tallest Ganesha idols in Karnataka.

Another temple dedicated to Lord Shiva called Someshwara temple is adjacent to the Ganesha temple. This temple is an example of architectural expertise of temples in Karnataka. It is built in the Hoysala style and the interesting fact of this temple is that, half of the temple has different style of carving compared to the other half. It is believed as former half was built by Jakanachari and the later half by his son Dankanachari and to add to this an interesting engineering marvel of this temple is that it is built of a rock without any foundation.
